Next Tex AW18: What to Expect

Sourcebook will be back at Munich Fabric Start from the 4th to 6th September 2018 to present the fifth edition of the Next Tex showcase in the Keyhouse innovations zone. This season we explore how Cloud Computing is streamlining the product development process with a special Digital Textile Connection group exhibition, as well as increasing efficiency and transparency in the supply chain with Triple Tree Solutions’ cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. KC Textil and Lunative Lab upgrade your wardrobe with their Wearable Tech components, while Recyc Leather apply Circular Systems to leather production and Printcubator offer on-demand custom textile printing.

We are also pleased to announce that ManaomeaZyseMe, PET2Silk by CoccconYooneeque and HTW Berlin will be exhibiting as Next Tex Innovators.

Cloud Computing: Digitising the Fashion Industry

The DMIx© Cloud created by ColorDigital in partnership with the German Fashion Institute is a safe, standardised environment for designers and suppliers around the world to share product info, and will be showcased in the Digital Textile Connection group exhibition. Defining and communicating colour has long been a challenge, but now thanks to ColorDigital’s colour matching software, hues can be converted into unique digital codes that can be stored, edited and shared over the DMIx Cloud, eliminating the need to send physical samples back and forth with the dyeworks or printers.

Also connected to the DMIx Cloud is X-Rite Pantone’s Total Appearance Capture (TAC™) Ecosystem that transforms material scans into highly accurate digital texture files for use in 3D rendering applications – such as Vidya by Assyst, where virtual fittings and alterations can be performed at the click of a button. When making the transition offline, the Epson SureColor SC-F6200 digital dye sublimation printer ensures consistent colour from monitor to printed textile, and Peter Büdel Accessoires likewise for 3D printed buttons, fasteners and other haberdashery.

Digitising global supply chains, Triple Tree Solutions’ ERP software brings every aspect of it together into one comprehensive, easy-to-use system. Their cloud-based QUONDA and VMAN quality and CSR management apps generate real-time reports from inspections and audits, simultaneously flagging any inconsistencies picked up by algorithms so that these can be remedied immediately.

Wearable Tech: Smart Garments

Keep your phone switched on with KC Textil’s Wireless Charging Pocket: simply drop your phone into the pocket and let it charge away. The wireless charging mechanism made of inductive coils is encased in silicone, making it dry clean safe, and any electromagnetic waves are blocked from penetrating the body with the help of a soft, metallised polyamide lining.

Also making the move to wireless is Lunative Lab’s award-winning range of light-emitting SmartLightTechnology components for e-textiles, fashion tech and other wearables. The LunaLight2.0smart connects SmartLightTechnology to smartphones – as well as the IoT – with the brand new LunaLightApp, taking electronic fashions, sports- and workwear into the next dimension.

Circular Systems: 100% Recycled Leather is a digital textile printing service powered by Mitwill Textiles Europe: a textile startup that connects print designers with production sites. Fashion brands can print their own designs onto a selection of standard, organic or recycled textiles from two to two hundred metres long, making Printcubator ideal for startups and capsule collections, and with production facilities in France, shipping distances, times and costs are kept low for European customers.

Advanced Manufacturing: Custom Printing

Proving that recycled leather is just as good – if not better – than the real thing, Recyc Leather breathes new life into split leather scraps that would otherwise end up in landfill. Bound to eco-materials like natural rubber, the remnants are transformed into a 100% recycled leather that looks, feels and acts like genuine cowhide. Since 2016, Recyc Leather has salvaged tonnes of waste leather, significantly reducing CO2 emissions in the process. Coloured with natural, non-toxic dyes Recyc Leather is a more sustainable alternative to plastic, composition and animal leathers, with the added bonus of a lower price tag.
